Our first Targa Rally
At the ages of 62 & 69 my friend Les & I embarked on our first ever Targa Rally - The Shaw Trophy in Kielder Forest. What a day, we really enjoyed ourselves even though we hadn't a clue what we were doing! The Saxo developed a fault which turned out to be a knock sensor turning off the fuel pump. Looking forward to the next one.

Austin A40 Devon
On hearing there was an old wreck (not me!) at the bottom of the banking next to Glen's cottage, Fraser and I just had to go and have a look.
It's been there for over 60 years quietly rotting away except for a bottle of 'Plastic' Fairy Liquid which looked like new. The reg was MXY42 which I believe is registered in central London in 1950. I'm going to do some research on the car and hopefully reveal my findings in the next video.

Land Rover Discovery 3 - Colour coded rear side window blockout & window tint to rear window
As I'm going to use my Discovery for my business and the occasional night away walking and camping, I wanted to have more privacy/security in the rear. So went for spraying and laminating printing vinyl with Arctic Frost then applying to the rear side window, then cutting and applying Medium tint window film to the rear tailgate window.

Land Rover Discovery 3
Well, after years of yearning, I've finally taken the plunge, sold the van and bought my first Land Rover Discovery 3. Searched for weeks to find one that hasn't been molested, well serviced with no issues. Found this one in Stoke from a real honest guy who'd had it for 8 years covering only 10k in that time and really looked after it. I'd already looked at two or three but they all had covered quite a few miles with current issues which the sellers try to gloss over then ask too much for them.
Dead chuffed with it and will give it a real good going over and sort all the advisories from last years MOT before this years.

Just spent the past fortnight stripping the rear of the engine to check the condition of the death pipe/thermostat housing, decoke and clean the inlet manifolds and inlet valves plus check and change all the injectors to solve the rough running and lack of power. Managed to do it but it's a heck of a job with loads of frustrating petrol and coolant leaks plus skinned knuckles!!

After competing for several years on the Go-Carting circuit my friend is building a Citroen C1 Rally Car for his 14 year old son to compete in the Scottish Junior Rally Championship. First event is only a couple of weeks away at Khames, Ayrshire. I'll be doing a pre event video on the car prep including my graphic work on the car.

Audi Coupe Alloys
Took advantage of the good weather today and got the alloys into the mid metallic grey and lacquered. Tidied up the rear suspension and clear coated all the components prior to eventual underside waxing. Also reduced the rear springs by 25mm to level up the front and rear. I researched cutting the springs and could cut the ones I had as they were coiled at both the top and bottom. I'll explain on the next video!

Audi Coupe Faulty Fuel Relay
The Audi sat for a week after it running perfectly only to not start today. So intended jobs and video were put on hold 'till I sorted out the problem which turned out to be quite a simple fix. At the same time, I tried one of the copper painted that I repainted silver grey to be pleasantly surprised by the result. Also checked the dash lights in the dark to make sure they were all still working.

Audi Coupe finally running
At last! After a year of fettling and nearly selling it, I took the Coupe to a real expert - Rob Bainbridge at Nentsport Dyno who, through a process of elimination, not only got it going but running spot on. I'm so pleased and can't wait to get it finished and on the road.

Parts used/replaced:- Cam belt kit, Brakes, Suspension, Stainless exhaust system, Engine service kit, Cold start valve, Idle control valve, Thermotime switch, Injection metering unit, Injectors, Warm up valve kit, Door bottom rubbers, Plugs & leads, Brake master cylinder and Temperature switch.

Nissan Primaster
Well, that's work on the Nissan Primaster day van project underway. It has to be a rolling project as I have to use the van daily. First job was to take off all the chrome and repaint the bright effect alloys which needed refurbed anyway. The side rails were easy and the wheels weren't too bad. The starter needed replaced which involves removing the whole of the front tend. Sounds a lot but is actually quite easy. Most jobs on this van are fairly easy. Mind you, I've still the gearbox to do!!!

Audi Coupe 2.2 - FINALLY RUNNING!
I can't believe it! It's finally running spot on thanks to Rob at Nentsport Dyno, Alston, Cumbria. He's a real old school 5 pot Bosch K-Jetronic specialist. Turned out to be a combination of quite a few things that only a real Bosch expert could diagnose. He basically changed the Metering Unit/air intake for a known running one, fixed all the minor vacuum leaks (that add up to a significant leak) replaced the new (faulty) idle control valve and tested absolutely everything. The cambelt was also one tooth out (that was me that fitted it!!) He then got it running and proceeded to tune it up and fine tune on his rolling road. I can't thank him enough and would recommend to anyone with similar problems.

Porsche Cayenne
Finally sorted the Cayenne. Turned out to be the Steering Lock. It's electric and has to mate up with the Kessy unit, Ignition switch and ecu. All sourced from a breaker and coded in by Boyd at Pixels Fixed East Kilbride. Runs really sweet and shifts through the gears well. Also handles like a sports car on the Eibach Springs.
Problem is that I really like the car and may want to keep it!! 20mpg average though :(

Audi A2 Lacquer Peel Correction
Well it's finished! and to think it was nearly scrapped. It looks like a new car now not one that is 22 years old! Really pleased with the result, especially as it was all done outdoors in between rain, mist wind and thunder. Just goes to show, for a little money, time, skill and perseverance, the fantastic results you can achieve.

Coronation day and what better thing to do than fit my secondhand tyres and track rods. Never done tyres with levers before but my Dad done all his when I was young. It was a bit of a struggle but I managed both successfully.

Audi A2 black vinyl roof
Had some timer to spare tonight so went ahead and rubbed down the lacquer peel on the roof and fitted a black gloss vinyl wrap. Quite awkward to do as the roof is ridged and curves 2 ways.

Work has got underway on the A2. First up is the Gear lever mechanism, new alternator and fuel filter.
Also started rubbing down the peeling lacquer. There's some on every panel on the car which involves rubbing down, blowing in the red and spraying clear over the complete panels.

Porsche Cayenne
Was out in the Porsche Cayenne after work today to have a look at the wires under the footwell. There's no visible breaks but someone's already been in there and connected up all the joints. They also unscrewed the dash and centre console annoyingly mislaying the bolts. I'm going to double check all the joints, stripping and rejoining where necessary. The footwell was soaked so will have to check the Aircon outlets and scuttle drains for blockages.
